About Us

The Matrix supports young people up to the age of 25, as well as their families and carers in South Tyneside.
We are here to talk about drugs or alcohol, or anything linked to them, in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you. You can come to us for information, advice, or just a chat.
Our team is friendly, supportive, and here to listen. You can come to us, or we can come to you.
You can talk to us, your way, in your time.

We are here to help.

What we can help you with:

  • Giving you advice and information
  • Helping you learn about drugs and alcohol
  • Talking about what makes you want to use them and ways to cope
  • Supporting you to avoid using drugs or alcohol again if you have stopped
  • Helping with things like school, college, employment or other life worries
  • Making sure you are safe
  • Support around feelings and emotions
  • Helping you get sexual health advice and condoms

What happens at your appointment?

We’ll have a chat and take the time to really listen to what’s going on in your life and what matters to you. This first conversation is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to feel comfortable. After that, if you’d like, we can look at ways to support you with anything you’d like to change or work towards, at your pace, and in a way that feels right for you.

Confidentiality (Keeping things private)

Talking to someone new can feel a bit scary, and it’s normal to wonder what happens with what you share. At The Matrix, we keep things private, safe, and secure. What you tell us stays between us. We might need to share information if we’re worried about your safety or someone else’s. If that ever happens, we’ll always talk it through with you first, so you understand what’s going on.
